Watercolors

After experimenting with watercolors without any instruction, I systematically studied it in 2020 under the able guidance of noted watercolorist Alex Tolstoy. One may see her works at https://www.atolstoyart.com/ ; most of the images here are attributable to that period.

FANTASY DOGWOOD - Dogwoods are some of the most beautiful trees in my state of Maryland and their non-linear growth pattern has always intrigued me.

EXOTIC BIRDS -  Exotic Tropical Birds and Showy Peacocks are fun to paint without getting too precise.

KEEP ON HUMMING - The wonderful thing about watercolor is the way even errant strokes contribute to a piece; here, dry-brush helps convey motion, even though it was initially intended to represent substance.

KILLING FIELDS - When man makes war, the only true winners are the birds of prey.

WET PARROT - Watercolors are often even more interesting before they dry.  Here a jungle parrot takes on a luster that diminishes after a few hours.  The finished bird (in the next frame) is not quite as interesting.

HAWKEYE  - This Hawk has a brilliant blue tinge to its plumage, which gives it a distinctly friendly look, despite its deadly intentions.

GEODE - Geodes are some of my favorite images.  I had no idea they could be fairly represented in watercolor, but was pleased with this result.
